Flashback 2000: Vitesse - Brighter Than the Sky

Another band that received plenty of Magnetic Fields comparisons back when they started was Vitesse! Maybe a bit in some of the vocal delivery, but I never really thought too much about it. Whatever people!
Vitesse released four albums from 1999-2002 with 2000's "Chelsea 27099" being my favorite. The vocalist, Hewson Chen, ended up joining another fantastic group (and Ooberus Oblivious fave) The New Lines!

Flashback 2000: The Kitty Vermont - Back to Better Days

2000 saw the release of the only album by The Kitty Vermont, "Wonderful You". Anyone listening will obviously compare them to The Magnetic Fields. Definitely not a bad thing, especially when in moments like this song, he captures their essence perfectly! This is by far the best track from the album, but there are plenty of other little treasures to be heard!

A new sparkling slice of synthpop from Red Sleeping Beauty! This year they'll be releasing a new song on the 1st of every month, culminating in a full album on Dec 1st! You know what that means? On Sept 1st, I get a new Red Sleeping Beauty song as a gift for my birthday!

Flashback 2000: Monaco - A Life Apart / Kashmere

Back in 2000, Peter Hook's Monaco released their self-titled follow-up to 1997's "Music for Pleasure". I don't think many heard the release, especially in the states. I luckily found the CD in an import section (and I still have it!). It saddens me that Monaco didn't do more because I LOVE this album! It's full of grandiose pop tunes and plenty of signature Peter Hook moments. There are many highlights amongst the 10 tracks but here are two of my favorites!

Flashback 2000: Nina Persson & David Arnold - Deceased

The angelic voice of Nina Persson and the orchestral pop magic of David Arnold put out this pop masterpiece back in 2000. It was the theme song for the modern version of British series "Randall & Hopkirk (Deceased)".

Freezepop - Into the Fog

Freezepop surprised dropped a new album yesterday! It's called "Fog" and they're deeming it their "techno album". I haven't heard the whole album yet but really digging this track!

Flashback 2000: Broadcast - Come on Let's Go

This year we're and for the next bunch of years we're going to be doing something different here at Ooberus Oblivious! In addition to all the awesome new music I'll be sharing, I want to include little flashbacks from years past prior to the start of this blog. My formative years of music love! So many amazing songs/artists I've never shared here and they need to shine! Of course there will be plenty I have shared but that just means they are so good, they deserve to shine again!
For 2024, I'll be focusing on the year 2000. And what better way to start than with my SONG OF THE YEAR from 2000, the Broadcast epic "Come on Let's Go". This song has always hit me to the core and it's one of my all-time favorite songs, talking top 20 here!
