Swansea Sound - Twentieth Century (Mini-Review!)
I've never been much of a wordsmith so I don't write many reviews on this blog, but today sees the release of Swansea Sound's 2nd album "Twentieth Century" and I figured "why not?!" If you love indie pop/punk/rock as much as I do, you should definitely be checking it out!
The album opens with "Paradise" which lets you know exactly what you're in for...snarky lyrics about the state of the modern world & music delivered via infectious indie pop-punk magic!
My favorite tracks come in the 2nd half of the album. The obvious choice for "Song of the Fall" should be "Far Far Away" (the band's love letter to Pete Shelley of Buzzcocks fame!) It is the most infectious track on the album and deserves multiple repeat listens. I LOVE IT!
"Twentieth Century", a song about a former punk powerhouse selling out and losing his fans' devotion is a punchy little number with a fantastic accompanying video.
"Markin' It Down" is a super fun number about second-hand record shopping and pokes fun at modern music distribution via Yard Act while name dropping some fantastic older bands whose old music just keeps getting cheaper and cheaper.
Album closer "Pack the Van" is about the band in their younger years, but when I listen to it, I envision the band today. They're still out here giving us awesome music and playing shows for us fans who are aging right along with them. Please keep on packing that van and loading up seven in the car and giving us die-hards what we love and the youth what they need to hear!
