This month sees the reissue of Heavenly's sophomore album "Le Jardin de Heavenly", originally released in 1992. This album finds their new member Cathy Rogers joining on keys & backing vocals, adding a new level to their music.
From the heavenly opener "Starshy", you already hear a new brand of Heavenly tune. Fantastic harmonies between Amelia & Cathy over the fuzzy, dreamy guitars is just perfection. "Different Day" is another track in this new vein and is just wonderful!
"C Is the Heavenly Option" is one of my all-time favorite Heavenly tracks and includes Beat Happening's Calvin Johnson on vocal duties with Amelia. A perfect back & forth of love advice from two now-indie legends! Album closer "Sort of Mine" is high energy power-pop for its first half then drifts into lovely fuzzy harmonious dreamy pop for its second half. It bookends wonderfully with "Starshy".
The album shows Heavenly growing as a band both literally & figuratively and starts to firmly solidify them as the indie pop royalty they now are.
You can order the reissue directly from Heavenly's bandcamp page.
