Lush - My Top 10 - Part 1

Probably the final of the essential Brit Pop groups of yore to get my Top 10 treatment, I present Lush!  I didn't find them until high school when their album "Lovelife" gave us the poppiest side of the band and heavy radio play via "Ladykillers"!  In college, I focused my ears MUCH more on my favorite album of theirs, "Split", which was often the soundtrack to my writing and/or short-lived painting phase.  I even painted a piece entitled "Lovelife", which was painted during a "Desire Lines" on repeat marathon.  They had a brief reunion stint and fantastic new EP  a few years ago and I thankfully got to see them perform in both LA & NY!  One of those new tracks was even on the verge of making this list!  Thank you for the music Lush, and we won't mind another reunion!

Freezepop is a band I've loved a very long time.  I remember hearing "Plastic Stars" while randomly scrolling through a guy I had just started dating's iPod, because one just has to know everything about one's music taste!  It was immediate fascination and love!  They make some of the best and most fun synth pop around!  AND now (HOPEFULLY), this year will see the release of their latest album "Fantasizer"!!  It's been a few years in the making and 10 years since their last fantastic album "Imaginary Friends" and I simply cannot wait.  Along with Annie's just announced new album, this may be my most anticipated 2020 release!

iamamiwhoami - my top 10 - part 1

iamamiwhoami are celebrating their 10 year anniversary this year and being my most recent favorite band, they definitely need the Top 10 service!  They have released three audio-visual albums that I consider complete perfection and while I don't know if they will release another, I am happy to have these three masterpieces.  Jonna Lee has continued in solo artist form as ionnalee.  While she's put out some fantastic songs, her total output hasn't lived up to what she created as iamamiwhoami.  My synthpop heart goes BOOM every time I hear this music.  The anticipation for any new release/video was insane.  It took me back to a time of actually waiting eagerly for physical albums to be released and running to a record store to buy it; a thing that has waned in recent years.

Hatchie & The Pains of Being Pure at Heart - Sometimes Always

I've never listened much to The Jesus & Mary Chain, but my little pop heart has always loved "Sometimes Always".  Such a joy to hear two of artists I love covering it and an even greater joy to see that they're releasing it for charity!  All proceeds from this release are benefiting The Loveland Foundation & The Movement for Black Lives.

In this time of sadness & frustration around the world, a little light is needed and one band I always look to for that light is The Boy Least Likely To.  It was after a very rough break-up when I turned to their debut album "The Best Party Ever" as my source of solace, and I will forever be grateful to them for it.  This band has always beautifully masked a hint of sadness behind some magical, bouncy pop.  It's been seven years since their last album and I'm hoping we'll get another soon.
