One more British band for this half-February weekend thanks to a leap year!!
Echobelly is a fantastic band. I never really got into their first album but their 2nd, "On", struck a deep cord with me from first listen. Their fourth album "People Are Expensive" is one of those few albums I would call perfect and easily one of my desert island discs. I'm so glad they're still around and that we can continue to hear new beauty falling gorgeously from the mouth of Sonya Aurora Madan, one of my all-time favorite voices.

Gene - My Top 10 part 1
Keeping the British train running through February, I now present My Top 10 songs by Gene! I discovered Gene through a nice assortment of car window stickers in college that included The Cure, Depeche Mode, Pulp and, obviously Gene. When I arrived home from that weekend trip, I immediately went to the record shop and tried out Gene's 2nd album "Drawn to the Deep End". Another case of love at first listen. Gene's debut album "Olympian" is one of my all-time faves.

Pulp - My Top 10 part 1
Right after concluding my Suede Top 10, I immediately started on another great Brit pop group PULP! Shortly after discovering Suede, I found Pulp and it was bliss. Their "Countdown" compilation was my introduction and it was mindblowing. How could I have not known of this magic for so long?? I traveled all the way to good ol' England for one of their reunion shows in 2011 and it was bliss. Few things can top hearing "Common People" live in a crowded park in London. Without further ado, the first part of my Pulp Top 10!

Suede - My Top 10 part 1
I still remember the first time I heard Suede in the mid 90's, borrowing the CD from a gal who was on one of my school projects where we were surveying students on gay marriage. The album was their debut "Suede" and it was an immediate and deeply felt connection. I'm glad they're still around and still making wonderful music. I'd venture to say they are one of the greatest B-sides artists around...a few of them are sprinkled in this list! I've only seen a partial Suede set in an SF park and a Brett Anderson solo Suede set in Manchester. I would still love to see a whole concert. Ahhhhh Brett.
